Partition tools

free versions @ partition-tool.com

Disadvantages: by copying partitions to a second hard drive in the worst case you will get a dependence to the source drive
a repair installation will fix this
don´t copy from or to drives with complicated partition tables
C:/ only to the 1st partition of the destination drive in some cases you must update the boot informations manually i.e. on xp : add a line like the following "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Xp on artition 3" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect" to the end of the c:/boot.ini file (if write protecded: rightclick on the file, properties, remove the tick from the write protecded checkbox) on vista use the tool easyBCD
